Sprint Cars

Powered by 700 to 900HP V8 racing engines, Sprint Cars are high-powered, compact race cars designed for racing on Dirt and Paved ovals ranging in size from 1/6-mile to 1 mile. Reaching speeds up to 140MPH. Many IndyCar series and NASCAR racers have come through the ranks of Sprint Cars, including Indy 500 winners A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones, Johnnie Parsons and Al Unser, Jr., while NASCAR stars such as Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, J.J. Yeley, Jason Leffler and others have at one point competed in Sprint Car action.

Sprint Cars vary in type, with common variations being the 360 cubic inch and 410 cubic inch versions, with both Wing and Non-Wing classes. Alcohol injected (methanol), these engines are usually very lightweight. In addition, there are several Spec Sprint series that compete with carbureted, budget-minded racing engines.

Sprint Cars feature an open wheel design, with an open cockpit and direct drive gearbox, with no transmission. These racers are either in gear, or out of gear, and they do not have starters and clutches. Gear ratios are controlled through a quick-change rear end setup with a direct drive to the engine.
