Crackerbox Race Boats
Built for racing, the Crackerbox race boats are usually built by amateur racers, usually featuring small block Chevy 283 V8. Small block Chevy 283 power plants were often harvested from smashed up Corvettes in local junkyards throughout the country. These extremely powerful and lightweight racing boats are usually around 15 feet in length, with a direct drive transmission “ so either stop or go! Most crackerboxes are propelled by outboard propellers of around 12 in diameter, steered by rudders connected to a pulley, similar to rack-and-pinion assemblies on cars.
