Midgets

Four-cylinder push rod engines, as well as an ever growing populous of single and double overhead cam engines primarily power Midgets. Ranging in displacement from 120 cubic inches to just over 200 cubic inches and boasting close to 400HP, when combined with their extremely lightweight build of around 900 pounds, Midgets have one the highest power-to-weight ratios in all of Motorsports.

Their ultra compact design and extreme power combine, making them extremely exciting. Midgets are also known as one of the most difficult race cars to master and excel in.

Midgets feature an open wheel design, with an open cockpit and direct drive gearbox, with no transmission. These racers are either in gear, or out of gear, and they do not have starters and clutches. Gear ratios are controlled through a quick-change rear end setup with a direct drive to the engine.

For those unfamiliar with Midgets, many of today’s (and the pasts) racing stars such as NASCAR champions Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and NASCAR stars Kasey Kahne, J.J. Yeley, Jason Leffler, and a host of others began and furthered their racing careers by excelling in the fire-breathing Midgets. Many racing Hall of Famers including Indy 500 winners Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones and Johnnie Parsons, and a slew of others began their careers in the high-powered, ultra compact Midgets.
