Vallejo Speedway 2, a 1/6-mile banked Dirt Oval was the Field of Dreams for American Canyon’s Steve Hazelton. The premier dirt oval was the beginning start for many new racers aspiring and dreaming of being the next Jeff Gordon. Operating from 1998 through 2003, the bullring oval provided local recreation and excitement for thousands of racers and their families. Families from throughout Northern California converged at the speedway in Vallejo at the Solano County Fairgrounds on a regular basis over 6 years. In just 6 years, the track gained in popularity so much that over 170 Go Karts competed in an event in mid 2003.
Among the myriad of race classes competing at Vallejo Speedway 2 include: Beginner Box (starting at 5-years old) JR Outlaw (winged kart, 8-12 years-old) 125 Outlaw Kart (125cc two stroke with wing), 500 Outlaw Kart (500cc two stroke with wing) Dirt Kart (flat cart with no wing 100cc max) 250 Micro Spint (2 or 4 stroke) and 600 Micro Sprint (4 cylinder, 4 stroke).
The speedway’s premature demise in 2003 was initiated by the County’s plans for a new equestrian center, which is now vacant.
